The shop and flat above were in very poor condition with failing timber floors and roofs. In addition the flat was of inadequate size and the shop was difficult to use, with changes of level and intrusive load bearing walls and columns. Aleck Associates designed a steel frame which allowed the interiors to be opened up and at the same time supported a new extension for the flat. The whole building was refurbished to a high standard.
