This listed historical semi-detached villa in Hampstead, North London was in poor condition and suffered from insufficient living-room accommodation for modern use. The scheme involved excavating a basement storey underneath part of the property, as well as underneath a new ground floor extension at the rear. Most of the original inadequate foundations were underpinned and the roof and some of the floors had to be strengthened. During the basement work an unsuspected sewer was discovered which had to be diverted. Aleck Associates Ltd worked with the main contractor, project manager, architects, English Heritage, Thames Water and the Local Authority to restore and renovate this building.
